Found in an artificial lake near the village. At first, when I saw it from far away, I got really scared.
The shape floating near the edge of the water didn’t look natural at all.
For a few seconds, I honestly froze.
It was early in the morning, and the fog was still hanging low over the surface of the lake. The water barely moved, and the entire area was unusually quiet. I had gone there expecting nothing more than a peaceful walk before the village started waking up.
Instead, I noticed something dark partially submerged near the reeds.
At first glance, it looked massive.
My heart immediately started racing because from a distance, it almost resembled some kind of creature lying motionless in the water. The shape looked uneven and twisted, and the reflection from the lake made it even more unsettling.
I stopped walking instantly.
The closer I stared, the more uncomfortable I felt.
For a moment, my imagination completely took over. I started thinking about all the strange stories people tell about lakes, abandoned places, and unexplained discoveries in remote villages. Growing up, older people always had stories about mysterious animals, things appearing overnight, or strange objects found near the water.
And standing there alone in the fog, those stories suddenly felt very real.
Part of me wanted to leave immediately.
But curiosity won.
After standing there for nearly a minute trying to figure out what I was looking at, I slowly started walking closer. Every step felt strange because I still couldn’t clearly identify the object.
The silence around the lake only made it worse.
No birds.
No voices.
Nothing.
Just the sound of my shoes against the damp ground.
As I got closer, I noticed the object appeared larger than I originally thought. Some sections looked smooth while others seemed rough and damaged. From certain angles, it almost looked like bones or skin stretched over something unnatural.
That’s when I genuinely felt fear.
I remember stopping again and wondering if I should call someone before getting any closer. My mind started jumping to worst-case scenarios.
Was it a dead animal?
Some kind of strange sculpture?
Something dumped illegally into the lake?
Or something else entirely?
The fog shifted slightly, and for a second the shape became clearer.
That somehow made it even stranger.
I carefully moved closer to the shoreline while trying not to make too much noise. My eyes stayed fixed on the object the entire time. The water around it remained perfectly still, which felt deeply unsettling.
Then I noticed something else.
Part of the object seemed tangled in weeds and mud near the edge of the lake, almost as if it had drifted there during the night.
By this point, I was close enough to finally start examining it more carefully.
And honestly, what I discovered surprised me completely.
It wasn’t a creature at all.
At least… not exactly.
The object turned out to be an enormous tree root system mixed with old debris that had likely broken loose from another area of the artificial lake after recent storms and heavy rain.
The twisted roots created shapes that looked disturbingly lifelike from a distance. Combined with mud, algae, and tangled branches, the entire thing resembled something straight out of a horror movie.
One section looked almost like a giant head.
Another part resembled claws or limbs.
The reflection in the water made the illusion even more convincing.
Up close, though, I could finally see all the details clearly.
Old wood.
Roots.
Plastic debris.
Fishing wire.
Mud.
Nothing supernatural.
And yet, even after realizing what it actually was, I still felt uneasy standing there.
There was something strange about how perfectly the pieces had tangled together to create such a terrifying shape. It genuinely looked alive from far away.
I ended up walking around it for several minutes just examining everything carefully. The more angles I viewed it from, the more bizarre it seemed. In certain lighting, it still resembled some giant sleeping animal trapped near the shore.
I eventually took photos because I knew nobody would believe the story otherwise.
Later, after sharing the images online, people immediately started debating what they thought it was.
Some users insisted it still looked like a creature.
Others claimed it resembled a dragon, sea monster, or giant serpent.
A few people even started sharing local legends involving lakes and unexplained sightings from nearby villages.
The photos spread faster than I expected.
Within hours, hundreds of comments appeared from people trying to explain the object. Some were serious, others were jokes, but many admitted the same thing:
“If I saw that from far away, I’d panic too.”
One person commented, “Nature creates the creepiest illusions sometimes.”
Another wrote, “This is exactly how horror movies start.”
What fascinated me most was how differently people interpreted the same object. Some saw roots immediately, while others were completely convinced it looked alive.
It made me realize how easily the human brain fills gaps with fear when we don’t fully understand what we’re seeing.
Especially in isolated places.
Especially near water.
And especially in silence.
Artificial lakes often become gathering places for strange debris after storms, flooding, or changes in water levels. Experts say roots and submerged wood can take on incredibly unusual shapes after years underwater.
Still, knowing the explanation didn’t completely remove the unsettling feeling I experienced that morning.
Even now, looking back at the photos gives me chills.
Not because I think it was dangerous…
But because for a few moments, standing there alone in the fog, my mind truly believed I was looking at something unknown.
And fear changes the way everything looks.
The experience also reminded me how powerful atmosphere can be. Darkness, silence, fog, and isolation can transform ordinary objects into something terrifying. A pile of roots becomes a monster. A shadow becomes a figure. A reflection becomes movement.
Our brains are constantly trying to identify danger — especially in unfamiliar environments.
Sometimes, imagination works faster than logic.
Since the story spread online, several people from nearby areas have visited the lake hoping to see the object themselves. Some reportedly left disappointed after realizing what it actually was, while others admitted it still looked disturbing in person.
And honestly?
I understand both reactions.
Because even though I eventually discovered the truth…
I’ll never forget that first moment I saw it through the fog.
For those few terrifying seconds, it felt like something impossible was waiting silently in the water.
